Facts about Arden-Arcade, CA
Located in Sacramento County and east of the city of Sacramento, Arden-Arcade is a census designated place with a history going back to the middle of the 19th century. According to the results of the 2020 census, the CDP has a population of 93,719, up from 92,186 in 2010. Arden-Arcade remains the second most populated CDP in the state of California.
The area's history begins in 1843, with a land grant deeded to John Sutter, known as the Rancho del Paso land grant. For the next several years, Sutter used the land for growing wheat and raising cattle. Sutter sold the land to James Ben Ali Haggin in 1862.
For the rest of the 19th century and well into the 20th, the area continued to be used for farming and for cattle ranches. That began to change as more people purchased properties with the intention of constructing homes outside the city. This in turn led to the development of shopping centers, strip malls, and additional subdivisions. Today, Arden-Arcade is viewed mostly as a suburb that provides residents with a sense of enjoying a slower pace to that offered in Sacramento proper.
