Found in Yolo County, Davis is located in the Sacramento Valley Region, and is the most populous city in the county. What was to become the seventh campus of the University of California was established there in 1959, as a successor to the old University Farm. Not counting the students who are enrolled there, Davis had a population of more than 66, 800 residents as of the 2020 census. 

The history of the city begins in the early 19th century, based on land grants that were later called into question. After years of wrangling, the questions were settled, and the community began to grow. By 1868, what was then called Davisville was named as a depot for the Southern Pacific Railroad. That was shortened to Davis by the post office in 1907. That was the name chosen when the city was finally incorporated in 1917.

A number of industries provide employment within the area. Currently, the top five employers in Davis include the University of California-Davis, the Davis Joint Unified School District, Sutter Health, The City of Davis, and Nugget Markets.
