Facts about Lodi, CA
Located in San Joaquin County, the city of Lodi is found in the central area of California's Central Valley. While the first settlements took place in the 1850s, it would not be until the 20th century when Lodi was officially incorporated. The 2020 census found more than 67,800 people called Lodi home. That compares to just over 62,000 people at the time of the 2010 census.
Lodi's beginnings revolve around the decision to establish a school in the area in 1859. Around a decade later, the Central Pacific Railroad was looking to establish a route in the area. A group of settlers that included John Magley, Reuben Wardrobe, Ezekiel Lawrence, and A. C. Ayers provided 160 acres to create a full-fledged town site. This led to the establishment of a railroad station in the community.
Lodi was finally incorporated in 1906. Today, the city is best known for wine grape production, with the vintages slowly gaining in prestige. As recently as 2015, Lodi received the Wine Region of the Year award from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
